Reece Walsh Opens Up About Fatherhood and Loss
NRL Star Shares the Impact of His Daughter on His Life
Brisbane Broncos fullback Reece Walsh has opened up about the role fatherhood and his young daughter Leila have played in his life as an NRL footballer and a man.
"She's my everything," Walsh said. "She's the reason I get out of bed every day and the reason I play footy. She's my motivation."
Walsh's daughter was born in 2021, and he said she has helped him to become a more mature and responsible person.
"Before she was born, I was a bit of a hothead," Walsh said. "I would get into fights and do stupid things. But since she's come into my life, I've calmed down a lot. I know I have to be a good role model for her, and I want to make her proud."
Walsh said he is also grateful for the support of his family, especially his mother.
"My mum is my biggest supporter," Walsh said. "She's always there for me, no matter what. She's the one who keeps me grounded and makes sure I stay focused on my goals."
Walsh is currently one of the most promising young players in the NRL. He made his debut for the Broncos in 2020 and has quickly become a fan favorite.
Walsh is also a member of the Queensland Maroons State of Origin team. He made his debut for the Maroons in 2021 and was named the man of the match in the series-winning Game III.
Walsh's future is bright, and he is excited to see what the future holds.
"I want to win a premiership with the Broncos," Walsh said. "I want to play for Australia and I want to be the best player in the world. I know it's a big goal, but I'm willing to work hard to achieve it."
Walsh Breaks Down in Tears over Uncle's Death
Walsh was overcome with emotion during a recent interview when he was asked about the role fatherhood and his young daughter Leila had played in his life.
After putting his hand to his heart, Walsh took a knee and covered his face as the emotion poured out. It was later revealed that Walsh's uncle had passed away.
Walsh's uncle was a big part of his life, and his death was a devastating blow.
"He was like a father to me," Walsh said. "He was always there for me, and he always had my back. I'm going to miss him so much."
Walsh said that he is using his uncle's death as motivation to become a better player and a better person.
"I know he would be proud of me," Walsh said. "I'm going to make sure that I live my life to the fullest and that I make him proud."
