ATP Tokyo: Tiafoe Triumphs, Fratangelo Falls
Tiafoe's Tokyo Triumph
Frances Tiafoe upset top seed Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the ATP Tokyo Open, winning 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-4. Tiafoe, ranked 26th in the world, played aggressively and saved two set points in the second set tiebreak before breaking Fritz's serve in the third set to secure the victory.
"I'm really happy with the way I played today," Tiafoe said. "I was aggressive and I took my chances. I'm looking forward to the next round." Tiafoe will face qualifier Daniel Evans of Great Britain in the semifinals.
Fratangelo Falls in Tokyo
Michael Mmoh defeated qualifier Michael Fratangelo in the first round of the ATP Tokyo Open, winning 6-3, 6-4. Fratangelo, ranked 141st in the world, struggled to find his rhythm and made several unforced errors.
"I'm disappointed with the way I played today," Fratangelo said. "I made too many unforced errors and I couldn't get into a rhythm." Fratangelo will look to rebound in his next tournament.
