Hamilton Takes Pole in Hungary as McLaren Impresses
Norris Leads Piastri in McLaren One-Two
Lewis Hamilton produced a stunning final qualifying lap to snatch pole position from Max Verstappen at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver beat Verstappen by just 0.006s at the Hungaroring, with Lando Norris a surprise third for McLaren.
Norris led teammate Oscar Piastri in a McLaren one-two, with the Australian driver also producing a superb lap to qualify fourth. Carlos Sainz was fifth for Ferrari, ahead of Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.
Hamilton Beats Verstappen and Norris to Hungarian GP Pole in Qualifying Thriller
Hamilton's pole position was his 104th in Formula 1, and his first of the 2024 season. It was also the first pole for Mercedes this season, and comes after a difficult start to the year for the team.
Hamilton was delighted with his performance, saying: "It feels incredible to be back on pole. It's been a long time coming, and it's a great result for the team. We've been working so hard, and it's finally paid off."
